With two young children of her own, Kate Oates knows how daunting it can be keeping our babies and young children safe. With years of professional experience, Kate aims to take the fear out of learning first aid with the launch of her business, Mini First Aid Wolverhampton.
As cabin crew for a major long haul airline over the last fifteen years, Kate has always enjoyed learning aviation medicine. She aims to pass on her knowledge and skills to parents who may feel fearful about learning emergency first aid. Kate says:
“I know that a major barrier to parents learning first aid is that it frightens them. All parents fear the worst when it comes to their children. As a parent myself, I know just how vulnerable you are at that moment you bring your new baby home. With my Mini First Aid classes, I have removed the fear factor to make learning as enjoyable and reassuring as possible. It is so important to recognise the signs and know what to do when the scenarios we fear become a reality.”
Due to her cabin crew experience, Kate has dealt with a vast range of first aid situations and emergencies, many at 37,000 feet. Kate adds:
“I have mainly experienced ‘fits and faints’ where the outcome is good. Unfortunately, there have been more serious instances and medical emergencies. A particular incident involving a seriously ill 4 year old boy ignited my passion for teaching Paediatric First Aid.”
Kate aims to bring her classes to both adults and children right across the Wolverhampton community.
Mini First Aid Wolverhampton offers 2 hour baby & toddler first aid classes for small groups of parents and carers. Classes are friendly but informative and cover choking, basic life support, dealing with burns, breaks and bumps, febrile seizures & meningitis awareness. A class costs £20 per person.
